Dorothy A. Voigt opened her law practice in 2015 to draft quality orders to divide retirement benefits in connection with a divorce at a reasonable price. Dorothy also is able to help attorneys and divorcing individuals to understand the retirement and executive compensation benefits they have and the divisibility of same.
Retirement plans are often valuable assets parties have when they divorce. There are many different types of retirement plans, and the rules and regulations regarding division of the plans are complex and require an expert to properly determine how to divide them. Dorothy has prepared hundreds of retirement orders for all types of retirement plans.
Previously Dorothy A. Voigt practiced with Schiller DuCanto and Fleck LLP from 2000 to 2015, where Dorothy concentrated her practice on the evaluation and analysis of retirement plans in association with the litigation of complex family law matters.
Dorothy received her Juris Doctor from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1992, scoring highest in her Family Law class and earning Dean's List Honors. Dorothy also earned, with honors, her L.L.M in Employee Benefits from the John Marshall Law School in 2012.
Dorothy is uniquely qualified to prepare Qualified Domestic Relations Orders and other orders dividing retirement plans. She is also intimately familiar with executive compensation issues. Dorothy strongly believes that time spent analyzing retirement plans while the divorce is pending will save clients time and money in post-decree litigation.
Since 2000, she has also taught “Kids in a Divorcing Society,” a mandatory class for divorcing parents in the 16th Judicial District of Kane County. Prior to joining Schiller, Dorothy worked at law firms that practiced family law, workers' compensation law, and SSDI Law.
Dorothy also has had articles published in the Kane County Bar Association Bar Briefs, DuPage County Brief, Lake County Bar Association Docket, and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. Dorothy has done presentations on retirement and health care benefits to the Chicago Bar and the Kane County Bar Associations.
Dorothy is available and willing to speak to your bar association regarding benefits issues and welcomes the opportunity to address bar associations and groups of family law attorneys and judges in the areas of dividing retirement plans in divorce. Dorothy will personalize the presentations to meet your needs.
